Mrs. Wassmer CLASS EXPECTATIONS
CLASS INFORMATION:
You are responsible for bringing a 3-ring binder/folder, paper and pencil everyday to class. Citizenship: Citizenship grades are based on classroom behavior. Students receive ‘marks’ for unacceptable behavior (gum/candy/food in class, coming unprepared to class, excessive talking, not sitting in assigned seats, note writing, use of cell phone, tardy, negative comments, and other disruptive behavior). Citizenship grades will be as follows:
H = 1-3 marks, S = 4-7 marks, N = 8-11 marks, U = 12 + marks
Disruptive behavior – This involves talking when the teacher is talking, talking out without raising hands, throwing objects, tapping pencil, & leaning back on chairs.
Raising citizenship grades: If students are interested in improving their citizenship grade, complete and turn in a contract provided by the teacher. Students may raise their citizenship grade one time during the quarter and have a 4 week period with only one mark.
Class Rules: Failure to obey class rules will result in citizenship marks.
1. Be on time: Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.
2. Be prepared: Have assigned work, materials, and equipment.
3. Show respect: To the teacher, other students, and school property
4. Follow directions: Actively participate when assignments are given.
5. Work quietly: In your assigned seat or area.
CONSEQUENCES: Students will be warned one time when there is either a citizenship or academic problem. The second time will result in a student teacher conference. On the third offense, parents will be notified. A parent conference will be held, if necessary. If the problem continues, a referral will be written and given to an administrator.
Assignments: Most of the work will be done during class time. There could be an occasional homework assignment. The student will need a binder to keep track of their papers. If you are absent when an assignment is due, it should be turned in the day you return to school so it isn’t marked late.
Make-up Work: When a student returns to school after an absence, it is their responsibility to get the work they have missed. Class notes can be obtained from another student or from Mrs. Wassmer after school. Not all makeup work can be taken home. The student may need to spend time after school to get the material and information they need.
Using hall passes --After getting permission from the teacher, a hall pass must be used to leave class. Each student will be given 4 Hall Pass Requests. One request should be given to the teacher if the student needs to leave class. One student can leave class at a time and take the hall pass with them. Students should ask to leave class for emergencies only. If you have left the passes in your locker, then you will not be able to leave class that day. Keep the hall pass requests in your notebook. It is not okay to leave class to get a hall pass and give it to me when returning. Hall pass requests not used can be turned in at the end of the quarter for extra credit.
Extra credit can be earned by:
1. Turning in unused hall pass requests, 5 points each.
2. Earning good citizenship – 10 points every three weeks for students who have no citizenship marks.
3. Staying after school to help the teacher – ten points for 30 minutes after school
Reminders:
1. Keeping the room clean – this involves cleaning up by putting papers in the garbage instead of letting them fall on the floor. We will do a room check every day before being excused.
2. Sitting in your seats – If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you will get marked tardy.
3. Leaving class early – Any time a student leaves early, they will lose 50 points. A referral will be written that could result in ISS. You are expected to stay in your seats until the bell rings.
4. Finishing work early – When you finish early, you are expected to remain in your seat. You can work on other homework, read a book, complete a crossword puzzle, or anything that goes along with learning and keeps you quiet.
5. Completing a bell ringer – Everyday the class will start with a bell ringer. The first thing you do is sit down and work on the bell ringer assignment while the teacher is taking the roll. The bell-ringer assignments are due every Friday and are worth 5 points a day.
6. Using cell phones – If they are in class, they will be taken away from the student and taken to the office.
7. Writing first and last names on all assignments is important in order to get credit for the assignments.
I look forward to having your son/daughter in my FACS class. The curriculum provides valuable information and is a favorite for many students. Please feel free to contact me if you have concerns.
